These turtles are protected by people who volunteer to sit on the beach and put red rope around them while they are sunning. It's a $10,000 fine to touch the turtles!
We love our house and it's a good thing since we will be spending about 9 months per year inside. The house is a split level which when you put it all together it's about the size of a two story house. The basement (cave) is Alex Sr.'s favorite spot and the hermit would live down there if we let him. The main floor has the kitchen and living room, the next level is two bathrooms and bedrooms, the fourth level is Alicia's penthouse. She has optimal view of the neighborhood. We expect our shipment from Okinawa in August, and we have no idea when our stuff in storage will arrive.
This beach is famous and unfortunately we were getting tired and not easily impressed at this point of the tour. Surfers love this beach and there is a huge challenge every year.
We had to announce our presence with the ringing the 5 foot, 3 ton brass Peace Bell. It sounds a message of calm and peace. We then went into the temple to see the 9 foot Lotus Buddha. It is the largest wooden Buddha carved and covered in gold and lacquer. The bridge that we crossed in front of the temple is the bridge used in filming Lost'sengagement scene between Jin and Sun.
The temple is the middle of a cemetery. It is customary to leave the favorite foods of the deceased at their final resting places. We saw apples, beer, McDonald's hamburgers, etc on various cemetery headstones.
We had a 6 hour lay over in Tokyo. We took advantage of these rest areas and an Oxygen Bar. I don't exactly know if the pure oxygen improved our mental clarity, but it did provide about an hour's worth of entertainment.
