Need someone to launch a rocket? Pilot your airplane? Fly to the moon? Explain Newton's First Law of Motion? Alex is your guy! Alex just graduated from Starbase and learned a ton. We went to his graduation and were able to catch him flying - sort of!

His call sign was "Dan Marino" and the fella next to him was "Obi Wan Kanobe". This is a new program that was established with a $300,000 grant from the DoD. There are 3 teachers and they are servicing the 5th graders of 7 districts. The home school is on base so they wisely scheduled the base schools during the cold and snowy months. I will say that it has been the highlight of January and February for Alex. Who knew that learning could be fun????

Doe a Deer?

Deer are plentiful out here. We've seen several inside the base and it makes me crack up to think that they walk through the base gate and no one bothers to check their ID. I think mom said that they probably just jump the fence, but I've decided to just pretend that they all walk through the gates. It makes it more fun for me! These guys have been hanging out in a farm next to the base. We saw 6 yesterday, and only these 2 today. I thought the one staring at me wanted me to feed it, but Alicia says that it looked like it wanted to charge me! She takes all the fun out of the deer, too. I'm going to put her comment with mom's comment and press delete!

Chorus

The 5th grade classes put on quite a performance. Alex introduced an Elvis song and cracked us up!

Swim Meet

I'm bummed that I didn't get a shot from the other side of the pool where the starting blocks are, but I'll remedy that at her next meet. I really wasn't expecting it to be so sophisticated and involved. Alicia's team has 4 girls (1 was sick so there are only 3) which can see are the furthest away in the first picture. The other two teams had 30+ swimmers. Alicia was in 4 events and it was exciting. The heats are fast and furious. By the time one heat is going the next competitors are lining up to take their places on the starting blocks.
Alicia is in the red bathing suit with the dark blue cap. The 3 little memorial swimmers stood out between the sea of red and yellow caps from the other 60ish swimmers.
