Ouch!

Hearse

It's hard to see, but there is a hearse with a gold casket in the center of the picture. Exiting with Style!

Jogaku Elementary

We were fortunate enough to travel to a local elementary school. I have always had assumptions of what Japanese schools are like and how the students act. Surprisingly, it's not at all what I expected. Some schools have uniforms, some don't. The students are in charge of their own education. They have tons of freedom and they also have obligations. While we were there, the students were cleaning out the shoe shelves, and sweeping and mopping the classrooms. We had an amazing time and Alex made some great friends along the way. Their school year begins in April and only has a 3 week break between school years.
Shockingly, no air conditioning in the school!

Update the blog without beach pictures?

Nope, never - here are the latest!

Taiko Boy

Alex has Taiko in his blood. He uses his time wisely and even practices when we are waiting for the subway. He looks awesome in action and do you see the Michael "Air" Jordan jump?

Asian-Pacific Appreciation

You never know what each day will bring when you walk into our school. May 5th is Children's Day in Japan. We celebrated it with a bang! The Shishi dogs were scary. They ward off the bad spirits and trap them in their mouths. The Taiko drumming was exceptional, and the darling little girls had us all saying "ahhhh".

The Hawaiian dancers were a preview of our future vacation.
