We were fortunate enough to travel to a local elementary school. I have always had assumptions of what Japanese schools are like and how the students act. Surprisingly, it's not at all what I expected. Some schools have uniforms, some don't. The students are in charge of their own education. They have tons of freedom and they also have obligations. While we were there, the students were cleaning out the shoe shelves, and sweeping and mopping the classrooms. We had an amazing time and Alex made some great friends along the way. Their school year begins in April and only has a 3 week break between school years.
Shockingly, no air conditioning in the school!
